That Settles It

Terri Whitehouse May 9th, 2008

It’s that time of year again, folks. As soon as January hits, I get antsy with anticipation for baseball season and, perhaps even more so, BBQ season. I hope to enjoy both this weekend. Squee!

Owen Covington at the Messenger-Inquirer reports that neither Sen. Barack Obama nor Sen. Hillary Clinton will be in Owensboro this weekend, though representatives of the campaigns are coming. Unsurprisingly, Sen. Mitch McConnell also has better things to do than hang out at the beer garden in McConnell Plaza. Of course, I don’t suppose he’s ever pretended to be a real “man of the people” or anything. (*cough* elitist *cough*)

Organizers are “working to get the other Republican candidate, Daniel Essek, to attend.” Yeah. The guy who, earlier this year, listed a Tennessee address for his campaign. The Democratic candidates for U.S. Senate who have confirmed so far are Bruce Lunsford, Kenneth Stepp, and Michael Cassaro.

Oh yeah, there’s also the KDP fundraiser tonight in Louisville at the Kentucky International Convention Center. I understand it’s quite a bargain compared to those thousand dollar dinners the GOP has.

Hopkins County Ruby Laffoon Event A Huge Sucess!

Jim Pence March 30th, 2008

This was my first time to attend the Ruby Laffoon event in Hopkins County and it was great. Special thanks to Hopkins County Democratic Party Chair Brenda Harris Glover and all of the Democrats in Hopkins County. I know I must have called Brenda Harris Glover 5 or 6 times the week prior to the event and she answered the phone every time and was more than accommodating. The Hopkins County Democratic Party has a jewel and that jewel is Brenda Harris Glover. I knew this gal was smart when I received a email from her and she had a .mac email account, OK some PC users are smart to but I found this girl to be exceptional.
The event included a great meal.
Four of the Democratic primary Senatorial candidates spoke at the event and Dale Emmons spoke for Bruce Lunsford, who couldn’t make it to the event. The 4 senatorial candidates were Michael Cassaro, Greg Fischer, James E. Rice and Kenneth Stepp.
Heather Ryan 1st District Congressional candidate gave a rousing speech.
Jerry Lundergan introduced Hillary Clinton and Hillary was well received, by those in attendance.
I hope to have video up of all the senatorial candidates, Heather Ryan and Jerry Lundergan introducing Hillary Clinton by Sunday evening.
I hope to have video up of Senator Hillary Clinton by Monday.
Thank you Hopkins County, I had one helluva time.

LOUISVILLE METRO DEMS DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY SENATORIAL DEBATE, MARCH 12, 2008. VIDEO.

Jim Pence March 13th, 2008

The Louisville Metro Democratic Democratic Club sponsored the first Democratic primary senatorial debate and invited all the candidates from the Louisville area to participate. Mike Cassaro and Gregg Fischer participated. Bruce Lunsford couldn’t make it to the event. Mark Hebert moderated the debate. The video, in its entirety, is below and is about 1 hr long. You can watch the video below or go here and watch segments of the video.
Kenneth Stepp another Democratic candidate for Senator was also at the event, but did not participate in the debate, because he is not from the Louisville area, but I did get a short statement from him and the video is below. All of the candidates have one thing in common, defeat Senator Mitch McConnell.
Heather Ryan Democratic Congressional candidate for Kentucky’s 1st Cogressional District was also at the event and was kind enough to give me a short interview, the video is below. To find out why Heather Ryan decided to run for Congress click here.
Once again the Louisville Metro Dems out did themselves. Many thanks to them and all their efforts.

Last Minute: Democratic Senatorial Debate!

Terri Whitehouse March 11th, 2008

Via Page One comes news that the Metro Dems will host a debate tomorrow. Mark Hebert will moderate the debate between candidates Greg Fischer and Mike Cassaro. Bruce Lunsford will not be in attendance.

The debate will be held at the UAW Union Hall at 6:30 P.M. If you go, please consider this topic an open thread to discuss what you saw and heard there, as I won’t be able to make it due to my work schedule.

Dr. Mike Cassaro, Greg Fischer And Bruce Lunsford Speaking In Frankfort, Ky. March 1, 2008. Youtube Videos.

Jim Pence March 2nd, 2008

(Cross posted at Hillbilly Report)

As I have said before in a previous post December 18, 2007, my goal as a progressive blogger, during the Democratic Senatorial Primary, will be two fold:

  1. To give all of the candidates as much positive video exposure as possible.
  2. To help any and all the candidates any way I can, to best of my ability, without actually being a part of their campaign.

We, as Democrats, have a chance to defeat Senator Mitch McConnell and that is what I’m going to focus on.
I wish all the candidates the best of luck and look forward to seeing each of them on the campaign trail. I also look forward to all the candidates working together after the primary to defeat Senator Mitch McConnell.
Jim Pence
It is in that spirit that I have posted the videos below of Dr. Mike Cassaro, Greg Fischer and Bruce Lunsford, in alphabetical order, speaking in Frankfort, Kentucky yesterday March 1, 2008.

GREG STUMBO AND MICHAEL CASSARO ATTEND AMERICA 2000+ MEETING.

Jim Pence November 28th, 2007

Last night I had the opportunity to attend an AMERICA 2000+ meeting in Louisville. Many thanks to Dr. Ted and Olivia Fuchs for inviting me to attend. I wish I had brought my camcorder, because US Senatorial candidate Michael Cassaro and Greg Stumbo, who is currently exploring a possible senate run, were there to speak.
Michael Cassaro was impressive, is a very good coherent speaker and quick on his feet. Michael Cassaro, if I understood him correctly, is a Doctor and a lawyer.
Greg Stumbo was in rare form and I do mean rare form, this guy can speak. He delivered a very good coherent speech and kept the audience laughing a good part of the time.
Both men answered questions from the audience at length.
Sorry I don’t have video of Michael and Greg, but I did get a photo. See below.

First Candidate Against McConnell

Terri Whitehouse November 14th, 2007

From WFPL:

A Louisville physician says he’ll seek the Democratic nomination for the U.S. Senate seat now held by Republican Mitch McConnell.

Dr. Michael Cassaro is a Prospect resident who has a pain management practice in St. Matthews. He announced his candidacy Tuesday morning.

Not surprisingly, health care is at the top of Cassaro’s agenda as he tries to unseat McConnell, who’s seeking a fifth term.

Cassaro is the first Democrat to formally announce his candidacy for the Senate seat in the 2008 election.

Other possible Democratic challengers include outgoing state Attorney General Greg Stumbo, state Auditor Crit Luallan and retired Marine Lt. Colonel Andrew Horne.
