Over the weekend, David Boswell picked up the endorsements of the Courier-Journal and the Elizabethtown News-Enterprise, and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee released a poll showing that if the election were held today, David Boswell would beat Brett Guthrie, 47%-41%.
On Friday, the News-Enterprise backed Boswell, saying, "Boswell with his experience and expertise clearly would be more likely to have a voice in shaping the policies that are most important to residents of the 2nd Congressional District…" On Saturday, Boswell also picked up the endorsement of the Courier-Journal, who said "he has been willing to take the right position on difficult issues…"
In addition to the endorsements, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee released a poll showing David Boswell with a 6-point lead over Brett Guthrie. Boswell leads Guthrie as the candidate who "will do more to protect jobs in Kentucky" and who "will fight to protect the middle class."
The Boswell campaign also released a new ad this weekend on the "Guthrie Gamble" – Guthrie supports putting pensions in the stock market, he is a champion for NAFTA and other trade deals that will send jobs overseas, and he raised money from Dick Cheney and his friends in big oil while Kentucky families were paying more and more at the pump.
(Owensboro – KY) Senator David Boswell released a memo from his latest poll, which showed him holding the edge over Brett Guthrie, 41%-40%, with 19% of voters still undecided. The poll was conducted by Garin Hart Yang Research Group on October 8th and 9th.
One other striking finding of the latest campaign poll is that while Brett Guthrie barely holds onto a favorable rating among voters, David Boswell is viewed favorably by more than a two to one margin. Boswell also holds leads on standing up to the special interests, bringing a fresh approach to Washington, and looking out for average families.
"Our polls reflect what we have heard when talking to Kentuckians – in these uncertain times, voters are looking for an experienced and principled candidate, and in this race that candidate is David Boswell," said Mark Riddle – Boswell’s senior strategist and media advisor. Click here to view poll
Remember Congressman Bob Livingston saying "I have decided to inform my colleagues and my constituents that during my 33-year marriage to my wife, Bonnie, I have on occasion strayed from my marriage. Doing so nearly cost me my marriage and my family." Bob Livingston resigned and now heads up the Livingston Group . Recently Bernie Robinson a Livingston group consultant has been very generous to Kentucky Republicans.
The Livingston Group represents Libya (Remember Pan Am 103? ) as lobbyist in Washington D.C. The Livingston Group has also represented Turkey as lobbyist in Washington D.C.
Congress Watch, an arm of Public Citizen, released a 49-page report highlighting ethical concerns about the Livingston Group’s lobbying efforts for the Turkish Government. The report details the efforts by Livingston, to secure a "$1 billion supplemental appropriation for Turkey. . . despite that country’s refusal to allow U.S. troops to use its soil as a staging area for the Iraq invasion. He also helped kill an amendment that would have formally recognized the Armenian Genocide that occurred between 1915 and 1923." The Livingston Group has received over $10 million in payments from Turkey. To read this entire report, visit: http://www.lobbyinginfo.org/documents/RevolveDoor.pdf
Mike Weaver exposed Ron Lewis during the 2006 election cycle. Weaver was effective enough to force Ron Lewis to spend $1,975,693 even though Ron only raised $1,707,710.
Ron’s wife Kayi defied Senator Mitch McConnell and supported Ernie Fletcher in his re election bid for governor by serving as co-chair for Gov. Ernie Fletcher’s re-election campaign.
We all know what happens to Republicans when they cross Mitch, just ask Chris Thieneman and he’ll tell you all about that.
It’s obvious that Ron Lewis was in the dog house with Mitch so Ron devised a plan to get even with the “God Father Of Green” , by quitting at the last minute with a plan to put his choice for Kentucky’s 2nd district congressman, Daniel London, on the ballot, at the last minute, and then sit back and watch Mitch McConnell steam. It was really a dumb and dumber plan, because Mitch got wind of it and hand picked a candidate, State Sen. Brett Guthrie, at the last minute to foil the plan of, dumb and dumber.
Now that dumb (Congressman Ron Lewis) got caught, like a child with their hand in the cookie jar, he issued an apology, that can be read in its entirety below this post and dumber (Daniel London) decided to withdraw from the race after praying about it, his, dumber’s, statement can be seen below dumb’s statement at the end of this post.
Some of us knew how bad we were being represented here in Kentucky’s 2nd District and now everyone knows and that’s the rest of the story!!!!
Dumb’s Statement:
I struggled with this decision until the last possible moment. After prayer and consultation with my family, I chose to retire and encouraged a former member of my staff to launch a bid to become my potential successor.
Upholding the trust of those that I represent has always been my primary objective in public office. My decisions last week were not thought through in a fair and realistic way. The political future of the region that I represent weighed heavily on my mind and, in hindsight, clouded my good judgment. I realize now the extent to which I have disappointed my constituents, supporters, colleagues and staff.
I would like to publicly apologize for my poor judgment and humbly ask for the forgiveness of all those who I have let down. There are no excuses for how I chose to manage my announcement. I regret it deeply and want to do all that I can to put it right and restore your faith in me during my remaining time in office.
I am humbled each day by the trust you have placed in me to serve your interests in Washington, DC. I intend to finish the final year of my congressional career fighting stronger than ever for a safer, hopeful future for Kentucky families. And when the 110th Congress draws to a close, I will look forward to leaving the seat that I occupy in good and capable hands, spending more time with my loved ones, and catching up on so many things that I have missed while in public office.
Thank you for your continued understanding and support.
Dumber’s Statement:
Congressman Lewis’ decision not to run for re-election came very quickly and our decision to run came just as fast. I am quite confident we would have been successful. However, after considering all that was ahead of me and my family, we determined this wasn’t the right time for us.
I am truly honored for the overwhelming encouragement I received early in this effort from supporters across the district. I am grateful for their support and their belief in my candidacy and vision for central Kentucky.
Sen. Brett Guthrie is a good man and as a Republican I intend to get behind him and support him for election and will encourage all my supporters to do the same.
I want to again thank Congressman Lewis for his great service to our country and the district and for his support and friendship.”
