Stumbo’s potential candidacy against McConnell receives warm welcome
Matt Gunterman October 16th, 2007
From the Greg Stumbo 2008 exploratory committee:
Dear Friends and members of the press:
Today, is the end of the F.E.C. Filling Quarter and, although we do not file a report because we are still an exploratory committee, I didn’t want the date to pass without giving you a full progress report. With so many great friends, we reached our exploratory committee goal!
Wow, those of you who told us that we had strong support were right! Each day, I find another group of people ready to join our efforts to take back our Country and pledge their support to our exploratory committee for US Senate.
I pledged to myself and my advisors that I would never again enter a race without talking first with my friends and supporters across Kentucky - not just the big contributors, but the people who are out in the trenches everyday making a real difference. I have yet to ask one person to support our exploratory committee who has not agreed, and for that reason, we reached our goal for the exploratory committee much faster than I thought possible.
While I have been focused on helping our Democratic ticket win this fall, I am so grateful that we have reached our goal. We are now focused on research and putting together some polling information. I will keep you informed of the progress. While I know Sen. McConnell might report 10 million dollars, it will take him 100 million to defend his dismal record.
It is clear people want a change in Washington.
Thank you for your support, we are about to change Kentucky.
Your friend,
Greg Stumbo

Attorney General Stumbo is the most seasoned, veteran politician, that is first to announce he wants the US Senate job and has made the necessary steps to “seek the pulse of the voters.”
Others like Horn, Luallen, have been mentioned, but mention is not good enough for voters to seriously consider at this time. And, the BLOG “DITCH MITCH”, because it has worked to tirelessly to paint the true image of Mitch McConnell, will surely pick a candidate and run with them. Then maybe they won’t. I can’t see where DITCH MITCH would put in some many tireless hours and then not have a voice in the election. DITCH MITCH is a power in this race and whoever is running should understand that. This groups of young people are very informed and very aggressive in their pursuit of the defeat of McConnell.
With the “main focus” on the current election, it is difficult to tell, in which direction the support would go at this time.
An old man’s advice to AG Stumbo . . . Mr. Stumbo you must do something to UNITE the KDP and let go of the strangle hold you and some members of the “good old boy team” still hold on to. If AG Stumbo can find a mechanism, to bring together, those which stood on the other side of the fence, in their evaluation of Jerry Lundergan, and make voters believe it, then it could impact fund raising for AG Stumbo. It is pretty well known Lundergan will be in Hilary Clinton’s corner. And with the present polling showing the New York Senator ahead by double digits, Hilary Clinton’s space, is a good place to park and watch, at least for now.
There is also a divide in the DNC between Hilary Clinton and Dean. And, that is not likely to change. The difficulty, in this, would be money flowing in too many different directions.
IMO,there are issues “money” will not overcome for McConnell and maybe if those issues can take legs and attach, like glue, to McConnell , it may not be necessary to wad the cannon with so much money. Who can we thank for ‘THE GLUE’, DITCH MITCH, of course.
If Jody Richards, Jonathan Hurst and the “old gang”, continue to divide the party and not cooperate with the new chair, that could impact the “dedicated support” of the KDP.
There is still a divide in the KDP and it is being supported with help from Dr. Dan and a few others that still believe Jerry Lundergan is the best political person to head up the KDP.
That thought (reality) pretty much took care of itself when Steve Beshear was nominated. Lundegan’s track record of DIVIDE and RULE WITH AN IRON FIST, is one of the things that made him so unpopular. Lundergan won’t change; he had a chance when the heat was on and he was the KDP chair. THE CLAMPERT’S, UH, the CLINTON’S, IMO did not come to Kentucky two times, without some assurance of future support for Hilary Clinton. With Lundergan working out of the Hilary Clinton camp and the KDP trying to UNITE the PARTY this would spell real trouble for our party.
It is imperative, for the election of, ANY GOOD DEMOCRAT, (?) that the KDP be UNITED in the race for the US Senate, to do other wise would mean Mitch McConnell will return to Washington and then the Kentucky Democrats would have missed the best opportunity, to defeat Mitch McConnell, that has existed in the past twenty years.
I just wanna say! Jim Anderson Stivers
Jim Webb announced in December. This stuff will likely settle after the election.
In the meantime, lets oust Ernie and keep the heat up on Mitch.
With so many ISSUES, contrary to the publics belief in politics, you can be assured the RECORD OF MITCH MCONNELL will not go away. How well, it is used to defeat him will depend on the advise the nominee gets from his handlers.
Colonel Horn appears to be a qualified candidate, but
does he have enough name recognition to take on a man that has been in office for over twenty years?
YES AND NO!
You must admit this. Whomever the opposing force to McConnell better have extra clean “skirts” for that is what McConnell with zero in on. McConnell and the GOP will do whatever they feel it takes to return Howdy Doody to Washington.
I do not see, how any current politico, has the background to take on McConnell without taking lots of negative hits.
And, Andrew Horn, may just be that person. Who else better qualified to speak about IRAQ?
I see DitchMitchky as a media outlet. It is encouraging to see such blogging against Mitch MoConnell when so many of our Kentucky Republican Federal office holders are getting a free ride, and even getting endorsed by the major daily media. There will be a Democratic showdown, with over a million Democratic primary voters to decide on our choice. Then it will be time to close ranks and Ditch Mitch.
