Sen. Mitch McConnell and GOP Supporting Our Troops

Terri Whitehouse September 20th, 2007

As you likely already know, the Webb amendment was “passed” by a vote of 56-44:

Webb’s legislation would have required that troops spend as much time at home training with their units as they spend deployed in Iraq or Afghanistan. Members of the National Guard or Reserve would be guaranteed three years at home before being sent back.

Most Army soldiers now spend about 15 months in combat with 12 months home.

“In blocking this bipartisan bill, Republicans have once again demonstrated that they are more committed to protecting the president than protecting our troops,” said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.

Regarding his leadership in blocking the amendment, Sen. McConnell issued the following press release:

All of us agree that our forces must be rested, trained and equipped, which is why this underlying bill continues the expansion of the nation’s Army Corps and Marine Corps. However, to tie the hands of our military commanders to deploy forces is a dangerous precedent.

Of course, Sen. McConnell really wouldn’t know how much rest is necessary for active duty troops, being that he was a sickly youth and conveniently was unable to serve in Vietnam.

Speaking of which, there is an excellent post over at DailyKos about the cowardice of some members of our legislature.

A great article on how the Left’s “Summer of Iraq” fizzled. Turns out 30,000 easily misled malcontents can be wrong.

Herodotus, from past posts, you’ve indicated that you’re a youngish, able-bodied, college-educated man. Why aren’t you joining the Army? They certainly could use you.

Herodotus, I’m certain that someone who would dare use the name of the esteemed Greek historian would not allow others to fight in Iraq — in your name — while you idle away your hours online. Maybe you can post from the streets of Baghdad.

the Nation did a major story on Mitch McConnell. I am sure as a pollster that kentuckians will releect him and he will joins forces with Guilani or as they say in nyc Jew li ani.Rudy can beat Hilliary. that’s why the peole on the O Reilley factor favor Obama. But Obama would play like ford in the South. Close but no cigar. so McConnell knows exactly what he is doing he know he can woin one more term before Kentuckians wake up. they are still asleep at the sweithc. if Kentucky went Democratic, they would be in the whiter House but Kentucky always votes Gop. endof story. ditch mithc is going to backfire. He loves the publicity. end of story

Next time I study a blog, I really hope that it doesnt disappoint me as much as this one. I’m talking about, I know it was eventually my choice to read, but I actually assumed you may have some thing great to express. All I see is actually a bunch of whining about something you may resolve if you werent too busy looking for focus.
