That way, money would be focused on protecting Mitch. Ultimately, this would divert money from more needy candidates, (Such as Smith, Coleman, and Sununu). Possibly passing up the opportunity to defeat Mitch, but make bigger gains in the Senate. However, this is a two sided issue. I can see Charlie Owens running a strong "Voting for Mitch is like voting for a third term of Bush" campaign. If another candidate would have better odds at taking this guy down, I guess I wouldn't mind, just so long as they give Mitch a run for his money.
