Time For Pushback On Cincinnati Enquirer

The Hound Dog September 10th, 2007

While the political department, including Malia Rulon, at The Enquirer usually provides great coverage of Kentucky’s political scene, this morning’s column was completely irresponsible. The column included a clip claiming victory for McConnell and declaring Insight will not run the Public Campaign ad:

ANTI-MCCONNELL AD WON’T AIR

Sen. Mitch McConnell’s campaign won a small victory last week when Insight Communications in Lexington, Ky., refused to air an ad attacking the Louisville Republican.

The 30-second spot, from the liberal Public Campaign Action Fund, attacks McConnell for helping to secure grants for nonprofit Voice for Humanity, whose lobbyist is McConnell’s former chief of staff.

The ad accuses McConnell of helping Voice for Humanity get funding instead of supporting troop body armor.

Voice for Humanity makes and distributes audio devices that play pro-democracy recordings in Afghanistan.

McConnell had this to say after the station’s decision:

“This ad has been recognized for what it is - a complete deception. This program involving a Kentucky-based nonprofit company is widely viewed as very successful. Their mission is a noble one, and I am proud to have played a small role in their success.”

Unbelievable. Did anyone check this before it went to print? They obviously don’t read the other newspapers covering Kentucky politics and the articles on Insight’s decision to reverse course and now run the ad. We can ask for a correction here:

If these allegations develop into substantive fact Dog the bounty hunter may face some serious civil liability if not criminal consequences for attempting to perpetuate a financial hoax against the National Enquirer and A&E network.
