McConnell to Campaign for his Second Choice for Governor
Shawn Dixon July 31st, 2007
After watching his first choice for governor Anne Northup get crushed in the Republican primary, Mitch McConnell, who has an all-time-high disapproval rate and an all-time-low approval rate, will take to the stump for his second choice for governor, corrupt Ernie Fletcher.
From the AP
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Gov. Ernie Fletcher didn’t get Mitch McConnell’s blessing in the spring primary, but he’ll soon get a campaign boost from the influential Republican senator.McConnell, the Senate minority leader, said Monday he expects to spend part of the August congressional recess campaigning in Kentucky for Fletcher, who is trying to rebound from his one-time indictment in a hiring scandal that ended with a negotiated deal with prosecutors.
For their sake, I hope they are planning to target the base because it seems among the general public these two are in a race to the bottom in terms of approval ratings.
As McConnell’s approval ratings fall below the magic 50%, he is beginning to realize that he will need a Republican governor next fall when he is trying to defend his vulnerable seat. The Senator should of thought of that before he hopped on the Anne Northup Express, which turned out to be one of the biggest Republican train wrecks in years.
However, this is good for news for the Dems. Everyone, please tape and take as many pictures as possible of McConnell endorsing, hugging, and hand shaking with Ernie Fletcher. It will be great to remind voters next November the kind of people McConnell surrounds himself with: one of the most unpopular and corrupt governors in state history and an unpopular President who has the country bogged down in an expensive and ill-conceived war with no exit strategy.
Classic McConnell.

I get the strong feeling that some of Mitch’s constituents will be out to greet him on the campaign trail. And yes, many will NOT be friendly.
I think it’s worth pointing out that McConnell’s fire for Fletcher is totally the product of his fear of Larry Forgy. McConnell truly does want to appease Forgy so that he won’t get into the U.S. Senate Republican primary against McConnell. I’m not saying McConnell would lose, but Forgy would take a good 30 percent of the vote, and that would be very embarrassing for McConnell.
DigME, you must be right.
At this point campaigning for Fletcher is a lost cause and only serves to hurt McConnell by linking him to yet another corrupt Republican politician.
do you know if they plan on making the fancy farm picnic would love to get some pic’s

Pretty sure they are both scheduled to be there! Bring your camera!
I disagree that Fletcher is as corrupt as you say he is, and as much as I get around this part of the state nobody ever says that he is corrupt.I get the feeling that nobody really cares about state government. Which is a shame.
Just love how you libs use the words corrupt, bogged down, ill-conceived,exit strategy in your blogs. It’s just propaganda that only libs love to read.
Are you libs afraid of winning? Winning to me is the best exit strategy, however I get the feeling that winning this war would be a political defeat for the left, and that in my opinion thats why you use words like exit strategy and bogged down. Winning this war would be bad for the left for sure.
States Rights Says:
“Winning to me is the best exit strategy.”
Gee whiz, thanks for the insight. I guess our troops hadn’t thought of winning. We didn’t realize it was that simple.
It must be nice to be a Republican, so blissfully unaware that there’s any such thing as complexity.
You gotta love Kentucky politics. Mitch McConnell has taken redemption from FLY BOY and now . . uhmmmmmm, they are “buddies” again.
Apparently the DITCH MITCH issue, taking place on the web, has reached the office of ‘OLD HOWDY DOODY.” He feels the tree shaking and does not know what will drop from that tree in his next run.
If the challenger handles the campaign properly, (?) then you will see headlines drop from the newspapers into the blogs, and then it will be more difficult for McConnell to “justify” his existence.
As far as “The Challenger” jeez, who among the vogue candidates is capable of statewide name recogintion and the ability to run an aggressive, insulting campaign, from the get go.
“Old Howdys” strings can be pulled by any one of the groups that have supported his pressure to give him money over the years. If it appers McConnell can not win, is not going to win, then that may just enough to gain a voter advantage.
There exist a mountain of newspaper clippings about HOWDY DOODY. To let those issue remain idle and attempt to take the high ground, by not pounding those identites would be a great mistake whomever challenges him. And, it better be someone who has “relatively clean skirts”, if that is possible.
HOWDY DOODY has the war chest . . . . and it is running over with juicy promises to his followers. But, will money buy him this election if he has to face a multitude of issues that clearly indicate Mitch McConnell does not have the interest of Kentucky voters on his agenda sheet. Where we are on this list, is anybody guess. But, the first REMINDER NOTE OF THE DAY FOR HOWDY is
call constituents and see how much money we can raise today.
His tie to George Bush and - the expose by John Stamper - from the Herald Leader feature story about McConnell will be a main focus to show . . .CLEARLY SHOW. . . McConnell is not about good government, McConnell is just like most of th other politicos in Washington. He is for McConnell, first, last and always.
He has to go, but don’t think for a second he will go down without drawing the emotional blood and scars of going negative.
WHY?
Cause he has nothing positive to report. I suggest when his term is over he re-locate to Texas, the home of political corruption and fund raising.
