More Polling on McConnell

In light of yesterday’s SUSA poll that has Mitch McConnell’s approval rating at 52% (which I don’t think is anything stellar for someone with as much name recognition as Mitch McConnell’s), a new poll soon to be released will show that these numbers are not rock-solid and that the more voters find out about the Senator the less likely they are to support him.

A poll commissioned by the Public Action Campaign Fund surveyed 500 Kentuckians on their views of Mitch McConnell. According to the poll only 38% of people are willing to re-elect McConnell and 49% of voters say they will vote for someone else or will consider voting for someone else in the ‘08 elections. Those aren’t good numbers for any incumbent. Moreover, the poll will show the McConnell approve/disapprove numbers at 48% to 45% respectively.

The most notable part of the poll says that when voters are made aware of Mitch McConnell’s position on issues, let’s say for example the fact that Senator McConnell voted earlier this year to abolish the minimum wage and has voted repeatedly against raising it, his re-elect numbers plummet to only 21%.

Mitch McConnell is out of touch with his constituents. His consistent votes against the economic interests of Kentuckians will be his Achilles heal in the upcoming election. While Kentucky has one of the highest unemployment rates in the country and one of the lowest per capita incomes, Mitch McConnell vehemently fights legislation that helps middle class and working poor families.

The more voters become aware of his policies, the more they will be appalled.
