McConnell’s Re-elect Numbers Under 50%
Shawn Dixon April 27th, 2007
A newly released DSCC poll clearly shows that Kentucky voters are fed up with Senator Mitch McConnell playing mouthpiece for failed Bush administration policies instead of being an independent voice for Kentuckians.
From the release
I know it’s a long way off, but if next year’s election for U.S. Senate were held today, would you definitely vote to re-elect Mitch McConnell, probably vote to re-elect him, probably vote for someone new or definitely vote for someone new?
Total Re-Elect……………47%
Total Someone New……..44%
Any incumbent polling under 50% is a definite sign of trouble for their re-elect campaign, but even worse for McConnell, 44% of Kentuckians want to see someone new elected to the Senate. Senator McConnell knows he is vulnerable going into the 2008 elections and that’s why he is trying hard to build an insurmountable war chest.

Forty seven per cent (47%) is not too good, but Mitch has a lot of time to turn those figures around. If the Republicans get us out of Iraq, and bring the U.S. troops home, Mitch’s chances for re-election should look pretty good. Kenneth Stepp.
I disagree with the phrasing: “if the Republicans get us out of Iraq”. If we get out of Iraq before George W. Bush leaves office, it will be because of the tenacity of the Democrats who fought him. I don’t think the American public will ever see withdrawal as Republican wisdom rather than the product of a working, two-party, checks-and-balances system of government, where the Democrats have done their job. The problem for McConnell is that, even if the war ends, there are multiple scandals and economic problems in the pipes that will consume voters’ attention and focus it on seven years of Republican dominance and incompetence. If McConnell is successful in reelection, it will be because voters bought his “I’m powerful, so keep me around argument,” which is the argument he’s clearly placing at the center of his campaign. Of course, that could easily work against him in a severe “throw the Republican bums out” political environment, which is where I think we’re headed.
just found this website;
about time we get rid of mr moneybags
but will this end up like the Barlow/Whitfield race where the republican just buy another race??
I was trying to be funny. I don’t expect the Republicans to get us out of Iraq. I expect their superior parliamentary skills will keep the U.S. military occupation of Iraq going for another two years. It is only after the Republicans are beaten in the election polls that our government will bring the U.S. troops home. I hope that happens soon.
