Mitch McConnell Wins, But Republicans Lose.

Jim Pence November 5th, 2008

November 4, 2008
Louisville, Kentucky
Needless to say I’m very disappointed that Bruce Lunsford didn’t beat Senator Mitch McConnell, but I can take comfort in knowing that I gave it my best shot to get rid of Mitch McConnell’s slimy ass and  I also realize that Bruce Lunsford must be disappointed because Bruce gave this race his all. The way I see it the best man didn’t win, but on the brighter side the policies of Senator Mitch McConnell inspired the rest of America to elect Barack Obama.
I suggest if the Republicans are smart they will ditch Mitch McConnell as their Senate Minority Leader, but I hope they don’t because Mitch McConnell inspired millions of Americans all across this land to vote for Barack Obama and helped the democrats gain House and Senate seats. Nationally Mitch McConnell is the gift that keeps on giving and if the Republicans keep Mitch McConnell as their minority leader Mitch will lose them more House and Senate seats in 2010. Keep up the good work Mitch.
As a Kentuckian I apologize to the majority of of the citizens in the United states of America that we didn’t get rid of senator Mitch McConnell and I thank all of the states that voted to elect Barack Obama as the next President of the United States of America.
Last night we saw history being made and I just couldn’t let this moment go by without trying to capture it so I put my camcorder next to a flat screen TV and videotaped Kentucky folks watching Barack Obama giving his victory speech. As I videotaped these folks watching Barack Obama, with tears of joy running down my 70 year old cheeks, I knew I was at the right place at the right time even if it was Kentucky.
The video is below.

Fred Barnes, circa November 22, 2004, in “Realignment, Now More Than Ever”:

KARL ROVE SAID LAST YEAR that the question of realignment–whether Republicans have at last become the majority party–would be decided by the election of 2004. And it has. [...] Rove says that under Bush a “rolling realignment” favoring Republicans continues, and he’s right. So Republican hegemony in America is now expected to last for years, maybe decades. [...]

What hasn’t emerged is the much-touted “emerging Democratic majority.” It remains a theory of liberal analysts John Judis and Ruy Teixeira, based on their take on voting patterns of women, urban professionals, and Hispanics. The theory faltered in 2002 and even more this year. [...]

Rove, leery of claiming too much for Republicans, said on Meet the Press on November 7 that “there are no permanent majorities in American politics.” This is true, but some last longer than others. Burnham, however, sees little chance of change for years. For Republicans to slip into minority status again, he says, it would take a monumental party split like that in 1912 or “a colossal increase in the pain level” of Americans as happened with the Great Depression. Neither is likely.

I think Mitch and Ed will be lonely in DC for sometime!!

Excellent as always, Jim. So great to finally meet you! xoxo

  3. Jakeon 05 Nov 2008 at 5:34 pm

    Jim,

Well put all the way around. What I’m about to say is somewhat rambling, but I hope you can put up with that. So here goes …

I hope Mitch gets his ass handed to him when the time comes for the GOP senators to select their leader for the coming term. That way, his “victory” last night will be a hollow one. I think I can live with that … for now. Then we can ask him, “How’s all that “clout” workin’ for ya, Mitch???”

In all honesty, I think the only other bad news last night was that David Boswell won’t be giving the Second District the kind of representation it needs and deserves. We sure could’ve used him in Washington, and Lord knows I put the word out for him. He’s a good man, and he’ll continue to work hard for us Owensboro folks in Frankfort, I’m sure of that.

As far as turnout, I read somewhere today (I think it was in the Indianapolis Star, might have been the C-J) that voter turnout nationwide was the highest since 1908. ONE HUNDRED YEARS AGO! WOW!!! It’s awesome that we had that kind of participation in a country where so many have taken their right — no, their DUTY to vote — for granted.

I wish I could get into how happy (really ecstatic) I am about Barack Obama becoming President, but we’d be here all night. Needless to say, it is a great day for America, and we should all be proud to have been a part of it.

Now, I’ll be the first to tell you that I am a registered and lifelong Republican, but over the past several years, I have become disgusted, not just disenchanted, outright disgusted by the Bush administration, Mitch McConnell, and their kind. Sure, there are some good Republicans out there, but they are few and far between.

So, thanks to their fumbling of … well … everything over the past eight years, I am coming home to the Democratic Party. As soon as I can do it, I’m changing my registration. I only wish my late grandfather could be around to see it happen; he worked on me for many years, and after I found myself a bit teary-eyed (with very happy tears, I assure you) when President-elect Obama was speaking last night, now I know why. Grandpa used to ask me, “Why the hell would you vote like that? Dammit, didn’t I raise you better?” Yeah, Grandpa, you did, and I am glad. Oh, the things we don’t learn until we can’t thank those who taught us …

Thank you for your hard work this year, Jim … we’ll get him next time … until then, when do we start working on Bunning?!

We lost the battles to move forward here in Kentucky, but we won the war–next January we will have a Democratic President and a Democratic Vice President. We might mope, but I’m sure few of us would trade place with the Kentucky Republicans. I’m sure few or none of us would trade a Congressional seat and Mitch’s seat for the recent victory of Barak Obama and Joseph Biden. Kenneth Stepp.

Mitch has done a great job for KY over the years. I am proud to have him return to Washington, DC. I find it interesting that so many outsiders tried their best with all their money to “ditch Mitch” but ultimately it came down to his constituents. We are the ones that really matter. I don’t get to elect representatives of California, so why do they think their opinion matters here?

  7. Mikeon 06 Nov 2008 at 7:36 am

over 90% of Mitch’s donors are outside of Kentucky, why ?

“Mitch has done a great job for KY”sure if you live in one of Ky large city

  8. charleson 06 Nov 2008 at 8:40 am

Hey Mitch McConnell you should get rid of your United States Flag pin and instead wear a pin with a picture of your hero, Mao Tse Tung on it. After all Communist China is one of the developing economies that you worship. Mitch, how many more jobs will you help to export in the coming years? No wonder there are so many jokes about how stupid the people of Kentucky are. If a Senator helps export your job and livelihood then re-elect him. Mitch you need to realize that many seats in the Senate were picked up by people who, unlike you, are loyal to the United States. Some of the liberal Republicans, liberal and moderate Democrats, and Independent Senators may make your future political life pure hell and they need to. Mitch you need to become an AMERICAN once again. You need to realize that a whole lot of people in the United States voted for Barack Obama and Democratic Senators. Kentucky is not the center of the Universe.

  9. charleson 06 Nov 2008 at 8:52 am

Just one more thing Mitch McConnell. Your good buddy Communists in China have really come down hard on the Tibetans. Just in case you don’t know Tibet was an independent country until 1949 until your spiritual brother Mao Tse Tung over ran it. Du Qinglin of the Communist Government in China (the Government that you place above that of the United States) said that it was impossible for Tibet to independent. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081106/ap_on_re_as/as_china_tibet_2 . Congradulations Kentucky, you have just re elected a Communist.

  10. Judyon 06 Nov 2008 at 2:33 pm

THANKS to everyone on the Ditch Mitch site for all their hard work to get rid of the worst of the Bush Crooks in the US Senate. Mitch’s money and power handed him a slim victory, but he will find a very different government in Washington when he tries to pull his same old shit in 2009. We will watch every move he makes and hold him accountable to the people of Kentucky.

THANKS to Matt, Jim, Joe, Terri, and Shawn. This website was the place to post all news about McConnell. With our work as McConnell Watchdogs ahead, I hope this site will continue. THANK YOU, THANK YOU.

I’m sorry you guys were unsuccessful in defeating MM. I was rooting for you. I can say that “I feel your pain” as I live in CT and we endured the re-election of Joe Lieberman two years ago.

  12. charleson 06 Nov 2008 at 7:23 pm

    Letter to Harry Reid:
    Dear Senator Reid,
As we all know the Americans have mandated change and for the most part we have gotten it. There is one problem and that is Senator Mitch McConnell. Senator McConnell has done everything in his power with the aid of his wife Labor Secretary Elaine Chao to export jobs and prosperity and ruin the lives of the United States citizenry. The reason that people can not pay their mortgages is because of job losses. However if one travels to Communist China the picture is very different. There is much prosperity there. The economy is booming and construction is everywhere. How many times did you hear Mitch McConnell talk about the developing economies of China and India? When she was with the Heritage Foundation Elaine Chao talked about the need to view Communist China as an investment opportunity rather than an adversary. In addition, according to July 2007 Parade Magazine Elaine Chao said that the American worker had hygiene problems and needed anger management classes. This is Mitch McConnell’s wife. Senator Reid, there are now 57 seats in the Senate held by Democrats and that may increase to 58 if Joe Lieberman rejoins the Democrats. May I point out that the people of Western Kentucky thumbed their nose and the Democratic Majority in the Senate and elected Mitch McConnell again. Make no mistake about it, Mitch McConnell will hold up progress for the American People if he can. There needs to be a program to filibuster any bill the Mitch McConnell supports. In case any of the undetermined Senatorial elections do not yield additional Democratic Seats, the Democratic majority needs to search out independents and any one else to bring cloture to any bill that Mitch McConnell opposes. In other words Mitch McConnell needs to be told to sit in the corner and shut up.

    Sincerely,

  14. Mikeon 07 Nov 2008 at 1:13 pm

Mitch McConnell is another one of these Republicans who came to Washington to drain the swamp and ended up deciding to pal around with the alligators. Some people might protest that isn’t true — and indeed, there was a time when Mitch McConnell was a genuine conservative leader.

However, McConnell has been inside the Beltway since 1984 and over time, he has learned to love the “compassionate conservative” kool-aid that has poisoned the Republican Party.

Just take a look back at Mitch McConnell’s so-called “leadership.”

McConnell supported amnesty in the Senate and even after it failed, he led the way in bringing it back. How many millions of dollars and votes did that finger in the eye of conservatives cost the Party in 2008?

    Got to comment–Amy Duvall—

The re-election of Mitch McConnell affects us all. He just doesn”t deal with Kentucky. This is why Republican are losing, it is “my” state “my party”, “my ideas”. Especially now, when the country is facing such economic crisis, we need to think about the country as a whole. Why would I want your Senator to continue to vote for his rich friends, and why?? would I ever want his wife, born in Taiwan?? to be our Sec. of Labor. Why would I want your Senator to vote against Health care and any recognition of the plain ordinary working class people? Same as Sen. McCain in Arizona and their are not even any earmarks to this state? With his 7/9 home, what did he care with our one?
Every vote with all the Senators makes a big difference to all the country. Obama just better be fair, tranparent and not lie, like we all have had to put up with for 8 yrs. Bush, his administration and friends are all richer and we have pd. for it. It has never been “Country First”– it is “Me” first.
I am extremely unhappy, that I have to put up with Mitch for 6 more years. But, he has less power, so guess I can live with that, and we get a new Sec. of Labor, that might even understand the word “labor”.

  17. charleson 10 Nov 2008 at 10:48 am

Mitch McConnell’s adopted homeland of Communist China has massive unemployment since the close of the Olympics. The Communist government there has just announced the injection of $ 586 billion of cash into that country’s economy. Since Mitch McConnell is much more loyal to Communist China than he is the United States we should watch him closely as George is still the President and the new members of the Senate have not been seated yet. Until the new members of the House and Senate are seated Mitch will still continue to thumb his nose at the citizens of the United States and worship the Communists in China.

  18. Mikeon 06 Dec 2008 at 1:39 pm

    Best politics money can buy!!!
McConnell’s Senate committee appears to be in debt after the tight election, having spent about $19.2 million, or $2 million more than the funds he received during the election cycle. The debt includes $27,915 to the Lukens Co. for direct mail costs, $32,171 to Emotive for Internet consulting and $400,000 for media production to McCarthy Marcus Hennings Ltd., according to campaign filings.

I feel the people of Ky. truly got what they both wanted and so richly deserve..that is, a Republican that will send their unskilled or semi-skilled labor jobs overseas, vote for a tax code that favors only the wealthiest Americans, fight any type of system that changes the for-profit-only medical system we have now, etc..

There is a reason so many in Ky., are poor. They are STUPID, plain and simple. And by voting for Mitch, a man who votes completely out of their best interests on virtually every issue, they are showing their stupidity over and over again.

Yes, he does say the word “God” alot and speaks about religion, but what good does that do you as your good paying manufacturing job is sent to China via NAFTA?

So, in the end, Forrest Gump was right..Stupid is as stupid does..In my opinion ALL funds for public health care should go to other states, these idiots want their tax dollars to go toward tax breaks for the wealthy, fine…then take that money and give it to states that want THEIR money to go toward THEIR health care. Ditto for education. Take ALL money destined for science, math, physics, etc classes and give it to other states

How can you support obama, a traitor to our country and the judeo christian religion that established this country. He puts us down to every country in the world and is nothing more than a liar and coward. This is the greatest country in the world and has offered more freedom of choice than any country in the history of the world. But then you uneducated and illiterate people have not studied enough to know that. I will defend my christianity and country to anyone, which is more than any of your followers would do.

Well, I noted that you posted in 08.
God I loved being able to say “ought eight.” My grandad used it from the last century.
    Well…step grandad.
But, he would have voted for President Obama, too.
Just like me…even my friend Steve voted for President Obama, even though Steve is a Democrat!
Which looks weird, but, I’ll drop the other shoe…besides having a sense of humor, we live the next state north of you…Indiana.
    Where Senator Bayh is?…
I always poke at Steve because the D sure doesn’t mean Democrat where Senator Bayh is concerned.
    Dumb, maybe.
Doodoo-head. (I try not to curse so much…except at inanimate objects like the computer when it isn’t FAST ENOUGH!!!!)
    but…
in any case, he had some good times and some not so good times.
    Wow…
    And in just two years.

You know he already beat Bush junior in promises kept, missions accomplished (that bass feces, Bush jr!)
121 kept, including some of the biggest and hardest to get passed.
Health care has been partially on the agenda since ex-President Nixon. Reagan sure didn’t help. President Ford wasn’t in long enough, but I think he would have gotten it done.
Still, President Bush sr. couldn’t have gotten dog tax enough to support a health care system… I thought President Clinton would have ridden that pony to the show in the end, too…but, it may have been a “thing” for Vice President Gore.
Bush junior just wanted to figure out how to suck up gravy on the backs of the middleclass taxpayers…About all that did was find me more friends.
    I only earn about $600 a year.
    More sometimes, less usually.
    OH WELL!
    Gotta stay positive about things!
    d=))
Here’s hoping you find someone to trounce McConnell.
    OBAMA 2012!

Mitch Mcconnell is a poor leader and will hurt America. His goal of ruining Obama instead of leadng The republicans in congress to create the politics that turns our economy around. Te number one priorty is putting 15 million Americans back to work.Mcconnell will stab them in the back if he chooses the path of gridlock and obstruction just to make things hard on the president. He has stepped way out of bounds by his words and deeds. The American people deserve better. Mich Mcconnell is a disgrace to America and the Republican party.

I see that one of you’re last piece of information was dated in 2008. Have you given up hope that Mitch McConnell can be defeated?

Mitch McConnell should be driven out of Congress. He is the worst of the worst GOP, a disgrace to his country and an obstacle to governing. His negativism and scurrilous acts should force an ethics investigation. I detest his actions as well as his words!!!

Hes one of the big pieces of this broken economic model, or at least in perspective. I think hes smart to keep his distance and not tarnish anyones reputation by making his presence, or affiliations known.

Thanks for the strategies you have provided here. Furthermore, I believe there are many factors that really keep your car insurance policy premium decrease. One is, to bear in mind buying cars that are inside the good directory of car insurance firms. Cars that are expensive tend to be at risk of being snatched. Aside from that insurance is also based on the value of your truck, so the higher priced it is, then the higher your premium you make payment for.
