Good point. However, these models ARE informed by experimental data. Parameters such as ion concentrations, conductances of ion channels, fiber orientation (in the case of 3D models), etc. are obtained from experiments. In addition models are validated – that they reproduce relevant behavior that has been observed in real living systems – before being used to make novel predictions. I can gry say from personal experience that the scientific community thoroughly scrutinizes models before they are published, and before they are deemed useful for yielding new insight. Computational biology is an iterative process: experimental data is used in developing the model, and the model in turn is used to guide additional experiments. Also, comparisons between models and well-established behavior in real systems are used to identify and improve model weaknesses.

I was born and raised in Kentucky, left at age 18, joined USAF in 64 thru 68, married girl in Tennessee and stayed there for about 35 years, recently moved back to Ky. and could not believe the difference, but, ONLY for the worse. My Father spent 42 yrs. working in the (UMW) coal mines, Madisonville, he made $25.00 dollars per hour with the best health insurance money could buy, with no co-pays, great overtime pay, great holidays paid, but when I moved home, the current miners work for about $14.00 to $18.00 dollars per hour, few benefits and if they are lucky enough to get health insurance they have to pay for most of it out of their pockets and if you need to use it, it will not cover half of what you need it for!!! When I left Ky. in 1964 it was one of the most progressive areas in the country, they were financially solvent, today Ky. has become a WELFARE state only surviving on the money the Federal governments gives them. The highways, roads parkways and interstates are in MUCH worse condition than I can remember, Most of Fort Campbell is in Kentucky, but most of the people that live off post choose to live in Tennessee because Ky. has the highest tax rate of any state I have seen and not get anything for it. Now, LET somebody, anybody TELL me just WHAT has Mitch McConnell (elected how many years ago?) DONE to help not only the coal miners but the people of the state??? Please, understand, I love my home-state, I still bleed blue for UK, but thanks to the ignorance of the people that keep electing Republicans to represent them is the REASON our state and country are in the MESS we are in. Most Republicans believe that anyone who is a Democrat lives off them. That is just one of the LIES of the Republicans. Recently on cable news they showed a young man and an older lady holding up big signs on busy streets with the words “O`Bama is against OUR gun rights”, but when the reporter stuck a microphone and a t.v. camera in their face and asked “can you give me some examplese of O`Bama being against your gun rights”??? They replied, WELL, I don`t know all the particulars, but I know they are against them”!!! What a fool! When you have young neices and nephew move away from home for a few years, they come back home for the first time, you can hardly recognize them because they have changed sooo much, when the parents do not see the big changes because they were so slow, that`s why I can see the big difference in changes in Kentucky that most people do not see because to them it has come sooo slow. WAKE up America, vote for and suipport the PEOPLE that are supporting OUR best interest and not the best intereest of the FILTHY RICH! This lie about the billionaires create the jobs is another lie. What creates good paying jobs is when you have a Large “Middle Class” that can afford to go out and buy houses, cars, furniture, t.v.s etc., etc. this creates a DEMAND for the products, thus creating the need for good paying jobs. Billionaires only take their extra tax breaks and buy another 100 million dollar home. WAKE UP AMERICA, before it is too LATE and we all lose OUR freedoms the Republicans haven`t took away from us YET (like with the Patriot Act).

How much did the congregation that you attend participate in the Republican political process and do they pay taxes on their gatherings? The people of this great country have spoken. The country chose a President who is the most liberal of them all. They better spend their money now because if you don’t, President Obama is going to give it to someone who doesn’t want to work like we do. The state of Kentucky choose a Senator who has the ability to help his state instead of a freshman Senator who would only be able to bring a few dollars to this great state. The first Congressional district choose a person for congress that has helped over 15,000 people since taking office. In the state races, western Kentucky has said no to casinos and said no to allowing convicted felons to hold a state office. The people of this great country have spoken.
