McConnell Camp Files Charges Against Lunsford And Lunsford Aide.
Jim Pence October 23rd, 2008
A Republican campaign aide for U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell has filed a criminal complaint against Democratic challenger Bruce Lunsford and his top consultant alleging that the two stole a digital recorder and intentionally erased it after a debate Thursday morning in Western Kentucky.
Richard St. Onge III., a staffer working for National Republican Senatorial Committee, filed the complaint Thursday afternoon charging Lunsford and Achim Bergmann with petty larceny and destruction of property, according to a statement from the National Republican Senatorial Committee.
After the final debate between the U.S. Senate candidates, Republicans with McConnell ’s campaign accused Bergmann of taking and then erasing the GOP staffer’s digital recorder.
Bergmann called it a mix-up because the recorder was on Lunsford’s podium during the debate and he picked it up with his papers.
Bergmann called the charges ridiculous.
"It’s a distraction," Bergmann said. "It’s a distraction. It shows desperation on their part."

if he’s on McConnell staff i wonder how he’s being paid now?
he has stalked Bruce all year like fly stuck to fly paper, I wonder what he does for Mitch the rest of the year, if he sticks that close to Mitch !!
Mitch is in trouble and he knows it. If Mitch does not get elected Communist China and India will have no representation in the United States Senate and Mitch does not want this to happen. Have you lost your job or house? Put the blame where it truly belongs – right in McConnell’s lap. If you want to see prosperity return to the United States of America vote for Lunsford – a true American. You know, Henry Paulson and Mitch McConnell just can’t stop their continuing worship of Communist China. Now I don’t know about you, but the way I see it, we need AMERICANS for our two Senators and Mitch McConnell does not fit the bill.
It’s plainly obvious that the McConnell campaign had better be extremely careful with this one! Eavesdropping on someone, without their knowledge or consent, is virutally the same as a wiretap and is punishable by law.
It is plain to see that this was done without the consent of the Lunsford campaign and they have every right to erase it. If it had been done to me, they would have gotten it back in about 400 different pieces!
Just some more ‘underhanded’ asinine politics by Repuglicans!
