Ed Whitfield on Jobs and Economy: “We’re Moving In The Right Direction.”

Shawn Dixon September 29th, 2008

Following up on Jim’s previous post, the photo below of George W. Bush and Ed Whitfield together is just more proof that Ed Whitfield hasn’t updated his website in years. No one in his right mind would be displaying a photo of himself with a president whose approval ratings are in the teens. But, if his website has been updated, then Ed Whitfield is scarily delusional about the economy!

This website raises an important issue. Our country is in a time of economic crisis that is being compared to the Great Depression and the voters of the 1st District have no idea what Ed Whitfield’s economic plan is. Most of his website, like the “Economic” portion, seems to have not been updated in over 2 years. Either that or Whitfield is in a state of denial about the economy. The “Economic” tab touts the country’s economic success and low unemployment numbers at 4.6%. Of course, we all know that the unemployment rate is now over 6% and likely to stay at least that high for a while. Also, Whitfield mentions the Tax Increase Prevention and Reconciliation Act and says he worked on that “last year.” That Act was sponsored in 2005. But, the scariest part of the page is the last sentence in the second paragraph where he says that with regards to job creation, “we’re moving in the right direction.”

As of this posting, (Monday, September 29, 2008, around 1 a.m. EST) Ed Whitfield hasn’t even released a statement on his website about the economic bailout package. His last press release was four days ago and was about fire safety. Further, the majority of his press releases simply point to earmarks that his party now claims to be so vehemently against. Who knows which way he will vote?

Further, what is Ed Whitfield’s staff doing if they aren’t communicating with voters? Hey, listen Congressman Whitfield, if you don’t want to update your website or tell voters where you stand on the issues that’s one thing, but don’t ask us to pay for your communications staff to do nothing.

Despite the stats, I see thousands of high paying jobs posted on employment sites -

    http://www.linkedin.com (networking)
    http://www.indeed.com (aggregated listings)
    http://www.realmatch.com (matches you to jobs)

I see 75K, 100K and 150K jobs. There are jobs if you know where to look.

I have seen thousands of jobs on the internet too. Most of them are temp to hire and some are just plain temporary. We need to close loopholes which actually reward companies who outsource jobs to foreign countries and actually raise taxes on these companies. George Bush needs to quit giving billions of our tax dollars to foreign countries. Taxation is not isolationism and the exportation of employment and manufacturing is not trade.
