Amendment five of the United States constitution plainly states that
“nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.”
If a person can not afford healthcare then there is a strong case in some circumstances that they will lose their life. The Bill of Rights says that this will not happen.
In most cases insurance companies will write a policy on you if you are healthy. I you become unhealthy your policy will not be renewed or may even be canceled. The medical profession has created its self a monopoly. If you require a drug to treat a condition you must get a doctor to write a prescription even if the drug would have no value as a street narcotic. What a setup. Pay the doctor and pay the drug company. We read nothing about the American Medical Association or the licensing of the medical profession in the United States Constitution. If you are sick the constitution says that you have the right to live but the insurance and medical professions seem to think otherwise. Universal Healthcare makes sense especially when our economy is being exported and failing.
Profit and control dictate all facets of our economy. It is, after all, free enterprise based and market driven. Simple solutions to many problems in America (problems often created by the action or inaction of our government) are often overlooked or discarded because the profit factor isn’t strong enough.
Health care should be primary and ranked up there with national defense. An unhealthy populous is a threat to our prosperity and a severe drain on our economy. We can’t rely on such people as Mitch McConnell or Ed Whitfield to be concerned enough to take real steps toward ameliorating this wide spread problem. They are too concerned with voting themselves automatic annual pay raises and supporting trillion dollar wars.
What if we had a health care system that was blind, like the scales of justice? We can’t expect or rely on government to administer any affordable plan because the lobbyists would swarm the halls of congress with money and extortion to keep their power.
It is a privilege to do business in America. A simple solution would be to give all the insurance providers who wish to do business in America a sign up list. The list would then be matched to every legal citizen in America needing health insurance, regardless of their health history, randomly selecting individuals and families for insurance company coverage. The random nature of the selection process would make it fair and reasonable. The only government involvement would be to collect names from their vast information banks and then allowing regulation of cost so it remains affordable.
Sound too socialistic? We already have taxes, fees, levies, laws, regulations, dictations and ordinances at every level of government to be an entry level Socialism. There’s no Republic representation in Washington. It’s just a bunch of money mis-managers and self serving hypocrates acting under the auspices and power of a government.
