It’s Official: Even Fellow Senate Republicans think McConnell is a failure as leader
Matt Gunterman June 9th, 2008
The national GOP is imploding. The legacy of Sen. Mitch McConnell (R) as Minority Leader of the Senate will be one of having overseen tremendous failure of the Republican party in that body.
The only question, really, is whether McConnell would be remembered as: (1) having been a man of skill who tried his best while working beneath an idiot of a president, or would he be seen (2) as an idiot himself who simply could not grasp the changing lay of the political land and whose idiocy only made the situation worse for his party and for the American people.
It appears that McConnell’s fellow Republicans in the Senate are coming to the conclusion of (2). From The Politico:
CATCHING HEAT: Did Senate Minority Leader MITCH McCONNELL blow it when he blew up last week’s global warming debate over the issue of judicial nominations? Some Republican members apparently think so.
Roll Call’s Emily Pierce finds “several Senate Republicans” who say “their leadership made a tactical mistake by needlessly complicating the debate with an unrelated fight over judicial nominations.”
The complaint: Republicans were “winning” the debate over the climate-change bill — higher energy prices being a tough sell just now — when McConnell switched gears to judges.
Sen. JOHN CORNYN: “I think there were some who felt we were showing some momentum on the bill, and that [maneuver] sidetracked us a bit. But we couldn’t just let the broken promise on judges stand.”

paducah got $5.3 in 2006,and mitch has another 3.9 million for this years pork, do you really need a new river front, looks like it could be spent on the rest of the state the shape we are in but i guess the rich have to have something to play with
“Phased funding for downtown riverfront development. The city already has received $5.3 million in federal money for the first phase of the project and is now seeking second-phase funding. The first two phases would take about eight years and cost $47.3 million.

I think that it is odd that so many people are coming together to ditch Mitch. As for myself I do not belive that Global warming is caused by man. Others on this blog might support the idea that Global warming is man made. Some on this blog are more liberal and some lean more toward the conservative idealism. The thing that amazes me is that we all agree on at two things: McCain, if elected will support endless wars mostly in the middle east which will bankrupt this country (No, I am not a Holy Roller, and I do not believe that the Middle East is Holy). The second thing is that McConnell is corrupt and must be ousted from the Senate.
Hey Mitch when diverse people and people with diverse ideas start coming together against you, you ARE in big trouble. Especially at election time.
Mitch is protecting big oil profits again:
June 10 2008
WASHINGTON (AP) — Senate Republicans blocked a proposal Tuesday to tax the windfall profits of the largest oil companies, despite pleas by Democratic leaders to use the measure to address America’s anger over $4 a gallon gasoline.
…..snip……
Democrats also failed to get Republican support for a proposal to extend tax breaks for wind, solar and other alternative energy development, and for the promotion of energy efficiency and conservation. The tax breaks have either expired or are scheduled to end this year.
……snip………
Republican leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky has acknowledged that Americans are hurting from the high energy costs but strongly opposes the Democrats’ response and has ridiculed those who “think we can tax our way out of this problem.”
“Republicans by and large believe that the solution to this problem, in part, is to increase domestic production,” McConnell said.
A GOP energy plan, rejected by the Senate last month, calls for opening a coastal strip of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska to oil development and to allow states to opt out of the national moratorium that has been in effect for a quarter century against oil and gas drilling in more than 80 percent of the country’s coastal waters.
Kilowat,
Just so I know where you’re coming from, are you fundamentally against Federal funds being funneled into Kentucky or are you just against them coming into Paducah?
Either way, elect Mr. Lunsford who I am sure is a fine man and you won’t have to worry about Fed funds coming KY’s way for a long time as a freshman Senator doesn’t have the political juice it takes to get funds for anything.
Are you OK with the proposed coal to fuel plant that may be built in McCracken County? Just wondering.
Ooooh. Government will take our poooork. Scaaaarrrrrry.
Have you seen the Paducah river front?
I just think there would be better places to spend the dollars, not as pork to just the favored few.

another post gone to the trash because i tried to put a link thanks
An interesting comment - let’s keep sending corrupt Senators to Washington so that Kentucky can get more pork. I have never heard anything like this before.
Kilowat - Your post went to a moderation queue, not the “trash.” It’s been “de-spammed” and is posted above your 2:51 post. I am not quite sure why our platform allows some links, but not others. Youtube seems to be one that often gets stuck in the filters, but rest-assured, we try to unblock these comments as we have time.
thank you
Kilowat,
I went to the cagw.org website as you suggested. I specifically pulled up McConnell’s list although I suspect I could have pulled up any name and found a comparable list. What some people label “Pork”, other people would label necessity. There is not a single State nor City in the nation that could survive without the influx of Federal dollars. Don’t take my word for it as I am pretty much considered a lunatic. Feel free to call any of your State legislators or any City govermental body and ask them the importance of Federal dollars being injected into the State and local economy.
the next time we see Mitch
be nice to have a picture of everyone waving a dollar bill at him, remember he’s the godfather of green
Easy one…..both Shrub and Moron McConnell are idiots. But, to McConnell….this unAmerican and unpatriotic fool who has NO regard for the US Constitution just had his criminal rear spanked by the US Supreme Court for the specious and illegal legislation the Repukes rammed through just as they were leaving power in late 2006. UNCONSTITUTIONAL!!
Stay on this subject.
We have most Democrats convinced and we need to make every republican share in McConnell stupid and mis guided speeches and his kiss butt Votes.
Because of Fox and the Right Wing Press Everyone in the country believes that McConnell is the picture of the state of Kentucky and it’s people.
Make and remind your people that McConnell followed our idiot President and make sure your votes don’t allow the country to believe that your all idiots.
