Mitch McConnell is not fond of women

Joe Sonka April 23rd, 2008

Last year the Supreme Court rubber-stamped discrimination against women in Ledbetter vs. Goodyear Tires, as they ruled that employees can only file gender discrimination suits within 180 days of the original discriminatory act. As Avoce says:

That means that even if the discrimination is ongoing, a woman cannot file suit, which, of course, assumes we both become aware of the issue and can form a substantive claim of discrimination - notoriously difficult to prove in the first place, let alone within 6 months. The ruling effectively shut down any wage discrimination suits by any woman, ever.

Today, bipartisan legislation is in the Senate which seeks to correct this travesty, co-sponsored by Republican Olympia Snowe- The Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act. But…. like all good legislation in the last year plus…. you know what happens next:

Senate Republicans said on Tuesday that they were confident they would be able to block legislation intended to reverse a Supreme Court ruling last year that established tight time restrictions on lawsuits over pay discrimination.

*****

But Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky and other Republicans said the bill, which is opposed by the business community and the Bush administration, could create a flood of lawsuits.

“We think that this bill is primarily designed to create a massive amount of new litigation in our country,” said Mr. McConnell, the minority leader.

Leadership aides and other Republicans said they expected to be able to deny backers of the bill the 60 votes needed to bring it to the floor in a showdown scheduled for Wednesday.

Block. Obstruct. Blame. Same old game.

Those whiny women will just have to take their lower wages and like it.

There’s no doubt about it. Mitch McConnell is not fond of women.

Civil litigation HAS to have a statute of limitations. 6 months, 2 years whatever. It would be a disaster to give UNLIMITED time frames for civil lawsuits. The supreme court decision was sound.

Equal Rights. Equal Pay for Equal Work. How the hell can any idiot find a way to object to that???

Once again operation obstruction is underway, led by Mitch. Change the subject, drag a rotten fish across the trail, keep them arguing about some other subject. They are just to ignorant to notice we changed the subject from equal pay to statute of limitations.

Take note: McSame did not even show up for the vote. McSame does not support equal rights for women. Mitch obstructed equal rights for women. So how can any female in her right mind vote for these fools?

Thanks for posting this, Joe. I hadn’t gotten a chance to.

SD’s Hair, 6 months is a joke. Of course, when you’re benefiting from patriarchal crap, it’s not surprising.

Furrrball, no one is saying unlimited, if they have please link. To review, when you are getting screwed by the people/person for are working for, are you not getting discriminated against each time you are paid less? Why, yes, you are. So when you find out, 6 months, 2 years whatever time it takes, and are still working for them, still getting screwed, why not be able to file a complaint? “”The Act would reinstate the previous interpretation that each discriminatory paycheck constitutes a new act of discrimination and thereby restarts the 180-day clock for filing a complaint with the EEOC.”"

I beg to differ. Mitch does so like women. One need look no further than his loving relationship with Elaine Chao. Just like the Kings and Caliphs of yore he has erected a monument to his love, The Elaine Chao Lecture Hall located in the Mitch McConnell wing of UofL’s Ekstrom Libary. While it is lovingly referred to by the students/serfs as the “Chao Hall”, a sign explicitly warns that neither food nor drink shall sully or becrumb the monument. So take THAT Taj Mahal!

Eww. Let’s never use “erect” and “Mitch McConnell” in the same passage ever, ever again.

    Let’s just “Ditch Mitch!”
