The clip containing Mitch McConnell in the Non Profit Maiden Alley Cinema, shot without permission from the former director of Paducah’s Maiden Alley Cinema is below.

It is like ole’ Mitch is on heroin and he thinks his campaign can just party any where it wants. Bravo Jim for getting this information out.

If the Board of the Paducah Film Society and Maiden Alley Cinema gave the McConnell organization permission to film the commercial in the cinema, the permission of former Executive Director Ryan was not required. She was an employee just like everyone else. It was not her personal cinema.

I’m not saying that the method of how permission was gained was the best in the world but based on a video I saw that apparently no longer exists and former Executive Director Ryan’s actions in that clip, maybe there was a reason the Board did not consult her and obtain her unneeded permission.

With all due respect sir, Isn’t it true that Heather Ryan was the Executive Director of Maiden Alley Cinema and her permission or advice was not sought, therefore violating Heather’s job description and the policy of the non profit organization?
A simple yes or no will do.
Now sir, you seem to indicate that that the Board of the Paducah Film Society and Maiden Alley Cinema has esp and knew in advance it was best not to bother with the lowly Executive Director of the Maiden Alley Cinema, but rather, just find a good Republican to bypass Heather and do what ever necessary to kiss Senator Mitch McConnell’s ass.

    Jim,
It is true that Mrs. Ryan was the Executive Director of Maiden Alley Cinema. Frankly, I do not have knowledge of the job description nor the non profit organization’s policy. Here is what I do know. Maiden Alley Cinema is a small local cinema void of organized labor. The Board of Directors as a unit trumps any position held by anyone else in the organization. All I said was that if the Board gave permission, Ryan’s was not needed.

As for the remark about finding a good Republican, if Bruce Lunsford had filmed an ad in the cinema without Mrs. Ryan’s permission, would you be just as concerned? A simple yes or no will do. And for the record, if you go back and read my original post, I said I wasn’t sure the method of gaining the permission was the best in the world. Jim, you seem to be a highly intelligent guy who is passionate about his political beliefs. You have my respect for that and I see by your photos and videos that you have enough years on you to know how the real world works. Put politics aside for a minute and be honest. If you sat on a Board of an organization located in a community that had benefitted from millions of dollars made available by a Congressman whom you personally disagreed with and they called you and asked to film an ad in your organization’s building that you would say no?

Larry as for your question about Bruce Lunsford, please look at my last post. http://www.ditchmitchky.com/1397/has-anybody-except-chuck-shumer-seen-bruce-lunsford-kentuckys-candidate-for-us-senator/
Any manager worth his or her salt, never bypasses the authority given to others.
I don’t understand your reference to organized labor, job descriptions and policies have nothing to do with organized labor. They are written documents, in every work place and are part of the given institutions policies.
When a institution fails to follow it’s own written policies, then the institution is subjecting its self to criticism at least and legal action at worst.

I’m just curious, on this issue, and you have to understand I have only witnessed it from behind my computer screen, but on this issue did the Maiden Alley Cinema itself, and IT’S board of directors actually give the permission? Or did they (meaning the McConnell bunch) use the other director (name withheld) who IS a republican to circumvent the system.

It is my understanding that Ms. (name withheld) allowed them and is not on the Maiden Alley Cinema’s Board of Directors. However there are several of the members of the Board of Directors that are on other Boards that interconnect. (I know all that sounds confusing)

Bottomline, the Maiden Alley Cinema Board of Directors did NOT give it’s EXPRESSED permission for Sen. (BLAH) McConnell or his supporters to film there.

However, they used a connecting facility and it’s board of directors, that has a member from the Maiden Alley’s board on it, to film there???? Am I getting this right????

Either way, it’s dirty underhanded politics at a local level! And if you want my opinion, ALL the boards should be fined for allowing such, as it DOES violate the non-profit status of the organization.

And NO AMOUNT OF MONEY should persuade a board to put the entire organization at risk of losing it’s non-profit status.

However, Mr. Larry I would like to point out one thing you said that is important to note…you DID say that “IF the Board gave permission” they key word is IF, meaning you have no knowledge of such, and therefore do not know.

Truth speaks for itself and the Board for the Maiden Alley Cinema in FACT did NOT give such permission, and Ms. (name withheld) should be reprimanded and/or fined for allowing such.

    Just my opinion!

    Kitty,
For someone who has “witnessed this issue only from behind my computer screen”, you certainly seem to be very well knowledged in all aspects of it. I appreciate your knowledge very much. Can you tell me how you know that Maiden Alley Cinema Board did not give permission? If it’s confidential, I certainly understand. Just say so. Who would you have fine all of the various Boards who were involved? I’m also a bit lost on how any of the Boards may have done something to put their non-profit status at risk. The monies I was refering to is the millions of Federal dollars that have been funnelled to the downtown development of Paducah, the organizing and building of the Maiden Alley Cinema and the River Heritage Museum, and just about every other major development in downtown Paducah, including the latest riverfront development.

Jim, in my previous post I meant nothing derogatory when I mentioned organized labor. What I meant was the Maiden Alley Cinema’s Board essentially rules the roost. There is no organized labor involved in the hierarchy. No offense intended or inferred.

Heather worked for the board. The board makes those decisions. When you work for a non-proffit as I do, you work for your board. Mitch didn’t need Heather’s permission. Further, he didn’t film the ad, he used footage from the meeting at the building. Mountain out of mole hill.

  9. YellerDawgon 15 Apr 2008 at 8:57 pm

Shawn Dixon, sorry buddy, you’re wrong. Board of Directors put the Executive Director in charge of day to day decisions like who can film commercials in the facility. You may work for a board that micromanages that much, I feel sorry for you. Also, you’re mistaken about the “footage from the meeting at the building”. The “meeting at the building” was a fundraiser in the upstairs of the museum (again, an issue with 501(c)3 status - but according to you, mountains and molehills right?). You can clearly see that the brick walls in the background of the video Jim has up is the lobby of the Maiden Alley Cinema. You seem to have enough knowledge about this issue that you should know what the lobby of the Maiden Alley Cinema looks like. It’s pretty distinctive, especially with the artwork on the walls, since the lobby is an art gallery.

Hey, just out of curiosity Shawn et all, did your friend Mitch get permission to film that art work in the prominent background?

In the spirit of openness why has Mrs. Ryan not filed her F.E.C. report? I thought she was the progressive candidate? Independent Charlie Hatchet has my congressional vote this fall. He is the true progressive and grassroots candidate.

Where is the Ryan for Congress Report? It was due two days ago!

  11. Kevinon 23 Apr 2008 at 9:50 am

Where is Mrs. Ryan’s FEC report? It is now nine days late. Does she understand the Federal Government requires her to file?

All the Democrats have filed their FEC reports in Kentucky and the Ryan Campaign has a big $0 for their report. Check it out at http://www.fec.gov/DisclosureSearch/HSRefreshCandList.do?category=stateH_dem&stateName=KY

Where is the report. What are you hiding Mrs. Ryan?????????

  12. Jameson 13 May 2008 at 12:38 pm

You aren’t required to file until you have $5,000 worth in contributions. It is my understanding that she hasn’t reached that point yet and is not obligated to file.

Your attacking a candidate when you yourself don’t understand the law?

Thanks to all for the excellent back and forth discourse! I have been scouring the web and doing my homework about this feisty candidate.

It seems apparent, from the information on this board alone that Heather was severely wronged and is in the right. Every smear debunked (Repug shills?) Parry and thrust!

Oh, @benton voter…you may want to reconsider that vote since your current concern with Heather is apparently invalid.

Way to support the truth! Let’s keep it up!

    Heather Ryan ‘08!!!
