How Draft-Dodgers Support the Troops
Terri Whitehouse March 25th, 2008
First there was this gem from Sen. Mitch McConnell:
Nobody is happy about losing lives but remember these are not draftees, these are full-time professional soldiers.
Now there’s this charming statement from VP Dick Cheney:
He’s the one who has to make the decision to commit young Americans, but we are fortunate to have a group of men and women, the all-volunteer force, who voluntarily put on the uniform and go in harm’s way for the rest of us.
Stay classy, draft-dodgers!

Can we all agree with this response to Mitch and Cheney from a comment at Think Progress?
“I reckon that many of the brave young men and women who volunteered after 9/11 did so with the expectation that they would be hunting down those that actually attacked us that day; not that they would be put in an impossible situation (in a country that had NOTHING WHATSOEVER to do with the attack on us) where they are expected to mediate a religious civil war that has raged for thousands of years.”
Technically, the Shia/Sunni split is only 1200 years old. But your point is well taken.
Color me a little confused about McConnell’s comment. Do “professional soldiers” deserve to die? How about “Professional Politicians”? Do they deserve to be in the line of fire too?
Just curious. Just asking the question everyone wants to ask. Don’t come beat down my door US Govt. just because you know where I live and each key stroke I make.
Whether a soldier, sailor, or Marine was drafted or volunteered is irrelevant. None of them volunteered for suicide missions in Iraq. The important thing is to “Ditch Mitch” and to get the troops out of Iraq as soon as possible. Cheney should be impeached also for war profiteering while Vice President.
McConnell is an idiot. As a retired military officer (Vietnam volunteer and veteran), I can assure you that “supporting the troops” means NOT sending them into an unnecessary war of choice. Why can not the voters of KY wake up, and send this phony charlatan named McConnell out of the US Senate??
