I wonder how this news will impact Nacy Pelosi’s ranking as the 9th wealthiest member in Congress? Will her $86 million dollar fortune shrink?

It could bring her $1,000,000 dollars in E-bay stock down.

Uh oh she has $1,000,000 in Phizer stock. Kinda of risk in a reccession.

Her $500,000 in Star Buck’s stock is interesting considering a cup of coffee there is as much as a gallon of gas. That puts a real pinch on the working folks.

Now Wells-Fargo gave her $10,000 and I wonder how she votes on their banking issues or should I say $5,000,000 in stock in Wells Fargo.

Ofcourse this news is not going to help her poll numbers rise from 16% as the leader of the Democrat Congress with a 21% approval rating.

    Nope, it’s not.
It amazes me we have to do this… but no matter how much you want the definition of a recession to benifit you and your party, a definition is: “a decline in GDP for two or more consecutive quarters.”

We haven’t had ONE quarter of decline yet. Give it a half a year of media screaming and maybe, just maybe we’ll get there. Or better yet, let’s find another to blame individual’s stupidity (like sub-prime and A.R.M. loans on houses they couldn’t afford in the first place) on the government.

So, besides the 11th commandment, is denial an official party line of the GOP?

One hundred bonus points if you use “personal responsibility” in your answer!

Recession? Maybe, but it’s beginning to look more like a depression. The policies of the right wing neocons like George W. Bush, Senator Mitch McConnell and Ed. Whitfield are coming home to roost. I suggest if we had 8 more years of these folks there would be a revolution.
    Btw, how’s your 401k doing?

I hate to say ‘I told ya so’, but I really did tell you the economy was screwed up.

Now don’t forget the INFLATION in that cartoon picture. (Who lies about those numbers? hint: wife of Mitch) We are in a period of stagflation, no matter how the republican spin machine tells it.

don’t worry the fed’s just loan the banks 200 billion dollars today, the stock market dow went up over 400 points today. so we can all go out and buy more on credit ,worry about paying for it next year

Inflation measured 1 Oct 06 to 30 Sept 07 was 2.3 percent. That is the amount of the 1 Jan 08 COLA for S/S, federal annuitants, and military retirees. Calendar year 2007 (1 Jan-31 Dec) had an inflation reading of 4.1 percent. So, shifting the 12 month period forward 3 months moved inflation UP 1.8%. Inflation for the period 1 Feb 07 to 31 Jan 08 was 4.3 percent. Food inflation is the worse since 1990. The annualized inflation for the Oct-Dec 07 period was 5.6 percent. While I am not not of “them thar” economists, I “ain’t” stupid either. This is not rocket science, as ole Fritz Hollings used to say. Moron Bush, enabled by Idiot McConnell has added about $3.4 TRILLION of NEW debt to the backs of your grandchildren. Paying the interest alone on this new debt will be difficult, let alone paying the debt itself. This is why the middle class is dying, and the poor are in serious trouble. When the MORON Bush was inaugurated on 20 Jan 2001, oil was about $24-25/bbl. Where is it today? When the Shrubber was inaugurated 20 Jan 2001, the Euro was worth about 85 cents. Now, the Euro is worth $1.55!!! Shrub Bush, enabled by McConnell, has destroyed the currency of this nation. Inflation will go up and up, the dollar will weaken more, making oil more expensive, and the working class will suffer. Heck of a job, Mitchie!!! A vote for McConnell is a vote for the destruction of the USA. But, ole Mitch likes to tax the hedge fund/private equity managers, who make $hundreds of millions, if not a $BILLION, a year at the rate of 15%.

Hero, regardless of it being officially declared a recession, it’s the worse economic conditions our country has seen in a VERY long time. It’s disturbing that as the dollar falls to its lowest, gold and oil soars, jobs continue to go away, the welcome mat for cheap labor is still at our boarders, people are losing their homes in record numbers, and the price of daily necessities are skyrocketing, those on the right are still wanting to paint a rosy picture. You should understand a simple truth that seems to allude the Bush administration et al., those that are being robbed at the pumps, paying $4 a gallon for milk, being forced from their homes, seeing an impossibility of sending their kids to college due to rising cost, while seeing the wealth going to the elite few, really don’t give a damn about your charts or what officially declares a recession.

And why have food prices gone up dramatically? Because we have taken our number one important resource and used it to fill the need for our number two most important resource. Ethanol is killing us at the grocery store. Don’t get me wrong, coming from a farming family I like getting a great price for our wheat, corn, and beans. However, having to hand it back over at the grociery story to save pennies at the pump isn’t working. When food prices rise, every price rises.
If only there was a way to get to that oil in Alaska that might just might have some wildlife on it that someone in the lower 48 wants to protect.
I’ve also never understood why Dems think the president is the all power-ful price fixer in the country. I mean, I’m sure you’d all like the government to fulfill your wishes and go commie, but that doesn’t happen here. Whenever I hear a total idiot blame Bush for gas prices I say “yeah, and why doesn’t he lower the price of I-pods, because you know, he has the same amount of power over Ipod prices as he does gas prices.”

  10. Terri Whitehouseon 17 Mar 2008 at 3:58 pm

Yeah. I really don’t understand why the fuck anyone would think that either.

I’m sure you’d all like the government to fulfill your wishes and go commie, but that doesn’t happen here.

Oooh! And pinko reference makes jackass neocon troll BINGO folks!

Hero, uh, here’s a few responses:

The Bush regime’s entire agenda has been to coddle the wealthy at the expense of the workers so it’s audacious of you to do the “out of his hands” bit. The 109th Congress and Senate marched lockstep in legislation to shelter big oil as well as most of the big contributors. This has been an issue with Democrats for the past 7 years and all we’ve heard from the right is gibberish about a “robust economy”. Well, where’s your robust economy now? That nonsense about the middle class getting tax cuts never happened and the pie-in-the-shy robust economy was a bubble ready to explode. It all went to the wealthy. The average 2005 income was 4.2 percent more, in real terms, than in 2004. But that increase was almost entirely at the top. One in 500 taxpayers made more than $1 million, but those taxpayers reported 58 percent of the total income gain, the I.R.S. report, known as Table 1.4, showed.

Tapping Alaska will not solve our problem and it will not bring prices down by any significant amount. You speak as if this is a cure but in reality, it’s simply an opportunity to make Big Oil more money. The concept that this would solve the oil crises is no more than fear mongering to persuade people to concede their land and environment and would ultimately only benefit the wealthy. I can back that argument up.

Your trite and redundant loyalty to your boy king has worn out what little effectiveness it ever had. The public is tired of the rhetoric, tired of the dishonesty, tired of war profiteering, and unfortunately, broke. They and the rest of the world are simply waiting for the end of this atrocious administration.
