There is an excellent piece up at RH Reality Check discussing the Religious Right’s love for non-medical use of ultrasound imaging:

Anti-abortion advocates for the non-medical use of ultrasound imaging (also called sonography or sonograms) on pregnant women have two basic strategies. One is to equip the estimated 2,500-3,500 crisis pregnancy centers across the country with ultrasound machines, in some cases garnering government aid to pay for them. The other is to pass laws under the guise of “informed consent,” which would require abortion clinics and doctors to conduct ultrasounds on pregnant women before providing abortion services. Some of these proposed laws go so far as to require that women view the images.

    The practice was once seen as a desperate move to seek care that was unavailable, unapproved ……………..

    Can poor folk from Eastern KY. afford the same treatment as the Bush twins?

    If this wasn’t about limiting the number or women who choose to kill their unborn babies would you even care? No. You’d be all for spending the money to give ultrasound machines, etc. to more institutions.

    You’ll do anything to keep the number of aborted babies as high as possible so that there’s more people who want to wash away their guilt by claiming it’s a woman’s body and she should do with it as she pleases.

    You’d be all for spending the money to give ultrasound machines, etc. to more institutions.

    Color me crazy, but I don’t think untrained non-medical personnel should receive government money to buy and use medical equipment for non-medical purposes.

    You’ll do anything to keep the number of aborted babies as high as possible so that there’s more people who want to wash away their guilt by claiming it’s a woman’s body and she should do with it as she pleases.

    That’s honestly the most messed up thing I’ve heard all week. Tell me again why all “pro-life” groups oppose contraception? You’d think that if they really cared about reducing abortions, they’d be pro-contraception as well. Oh, that’s right. They don’t really care about life or reducing abortions all that much.

    kilowat pointed out some days ago, that under Bush’s abstinence only program the abortion rate has gone way up.

    Facts just get in the way of these right wing fundamentalists. They somply continue preaching willful ignorance to our children.
