Mitch McConnell’s Self-Approval Rating At All Time High; Approval Among Kentuckians A Different Story
Shawn Dixon January 14th, 2008
If you don’t think Mitch is doing a heckuva job, just ask him. Or, ask his friends over at Voter/Consumer Research who got to dress up as pollsters last week and run McConnell’s approval ratings up to 61%. But, as Terri pointed out and BGR first told us, McConnell of course commissioned the poll. They must have polled the heads of big oil company and big corporation executives in order to get their numbers over 50%. Both have every right to support Mitch McConnell because he delivers for corporations and big oil companies every day.
Kentuckians, of course, hold a different view. McConnell’s fight for tax breaks for big oil and against insurance for Kentucky’s poorest children is reflected in the latest poll numbers by Survery USA. Their polling has consistently shown that Mitch McConnell’s approval ratings fail to crack the 50% mark.
Such low polling is bad news for any incumbent. However, Mitch McConnell is not just any incumbent. He is an incumbent who has already spent a lot of his corporate campaign money to run campaign ads all throughout the state.
This is extremely bad news for McConnell. Even in the face of heavy spending, Mitch McConnell’s disapproval ratings are nearly as high approvals. Further, these numbers show that he barely beats Senator Jim Bunning in a popularity contest. That’s when you know it’s bad.
This, however, is very good news for Kentuckians. It shows that Kentuckians aren’t going to be bought and sold by the McConnell Money Machine this fall. Senator McConnell can break all the fundraising records he wants, but the message coming from Kentucky is clear: we want change.
No matter how he tries to re-invent himself over the next nine months and no matter how much money he throws to advertising, these numbers from Survey USA show us that Kentuckians are ready to hold McConnell accountable for his failed leadership.
Change is on the way.

Any idea why the big barge companies love Mitch? They sure donate lots of money to him.
if we could find out where the 20 million dollars, went for the Paducah economic development, it may be the Ingram barge co.they have been building new office in Paducah and expanding
Are the Paducah Paxton’s supporting Mitch? I know the economy in Paducah and the surrounding area sucks…but that doesn’t bother them.
What Paducah you living in Scott? Try getting a nice steak during the weekends,or eating at Cracker Barrel on a Sunday afternoon.
Not to brag however my sales for this area are up from last year by %17. I just don’t see a bad economy here.
Cracker Barrel is doing great everywhere, but most of them are located right beside the Interstates.
Hey States, eating establishments are about all ya got there, plus WalMart. Gotta admit, Paducah does have the best BBQ in the world, but we are talking the economy here, everybody can’t work at a restrauant or Wal Mart.
Not talking about work Scott, talking about spending. Unemployment is not bad here people are working. We all have seen growth here in West Ky the last 6 years. The people who are not working or unemployed are there by choice, lazy or just don’t want to work.
And I`m not giving any credit to growth here to any politician mayor or any leader that claims it, it’s the people here.
I`m ready for Mitch to go as much as any of you Mitch haters here, he has been in office way to long to do anybody any good. I figure that any politician thats been in as long as he has is lining his own pocket book, that goes for Dem’s or Republicans.
LOL States, I’m hardly a Mitch or anyone else hater. What growth are you talking about? Honestly, I’m not being a smart arse, but would really like to know. Are there new industries there? In order to spend, you gotta have work. I do know I see lots of Illinois cars in Paducah especially at the eating places. Maybe that’s what you are referring to.
Hey States, it’s been a pleaseure talking to you. I’m getting back on the road, so will check in from time to time. I get into Paducah pretty often, have family and own property in the area. You’re a good person I bet. I appreciate civil conservation.
McCracken county 5.4 unemployment maybe ok but you need to look at the rest of western Ky. Graves 7.2,Hickman 6.8, Fulton 7.5,Carlisle 6.1,Ballard 6.2
If I remember right the figures you posted kilowat have been around the same number since I moved here from Texas in 87. They may have moved up and down however they still seem to hover around those numbers. We are blessed for sure here in west Ky, to sit here and talk about how bad it is here in West Ky is bunk!! I can remember when it was bad here in the late 70’s and early 80’s
You can’t force everone to work, there will be bums and lazy people who will just not work. I’ve lived here in Ballard since 87 and during the late 70’s and 80’s and all the people I know who are not working or change jobs like they do there socks are just bums and low lifes.
To sit here and paint doom and gloom in west ky, I just don’t see it.
I moved here from mo. in 70, look how many factory have closed in Clinton, Fulton,Hickman,Mayfield ! I went to work for general tire in 72 I’m retired now and still getting screwed by that company
I moved from West Ky to Texas so I could make a decent living. I’m back in West Ky often because of family and a couple of farms I own. The economy is sad there, and anybody that is honest knows it. Working for minium wage may mean you have a job and aren’t lazy by States standards, but it still won’t feed your family.
my daughter teaches school in McAllen Tx.
We are retired educators. Texas paid about 3 times more then Ky.
Hey Scott I’m always looking for a place to shoot some coyotes….Need any removed?

When my family and I were in Texas every thing was sad there. The economy there in the Livingston area was in sad shape. I was thankful to return to Ky ,plus if I hadn’t Shawn would have never met his favorite conservative.
