Creeplord Alert: Education Commissioner Named
Terri Whitehouse November 26th, 2007
The Kentucky Board of Education announced that Republican Jon Draud will serve as Kentucky’s new Education Commissioner, despite urging by Governor-elect Steve Beshear that the search continue.
Said Draud:
…we have taken God out of our society and our schools. Our major institutions are afraid to teach values, while many parents have completely abdicated their responsibilities. Parents frequently do not teach their children about God and traditional American values, and schools are forbidden to do so by our court system.
Kentucky kids lose. Again.

Yes, just another sign that Fletcher and his cronies plan to leave Gov. Steve Beshear one hell of a mess to clean up and deal with over the next four years. Fortunately, Beshear has given every sign that he will be quite savvy in cleaning up that mess.
Coming to America soon! A good example of what we can expect from mixing our politics, and courts, with religion.
from the BBC:
Saudi justice officials say a woman who was sentenced to prison and flogging after she was gang-raped has now confessed to an extramarital affair.
The case of the unidentified woman, 19, drew international criticism after an appeal increased her 90-lash sentence to 200 lashes and six months’ jail.
The justice ministry statement rejected “foreign interference” in the case.
It insisted the ruling was legal and that the woman had “confessed to doing what God has forbidden”.
The statement carried by the official press agency late on Saturday said the sentence would be carried out in accordance with Saudi law.
The woman was initially to be punished for violating strict gender segregation laws in Saudi Arabia, for riding in the car of a man who was not related to her when they were both attacked.
“The Saudi justice minister expressed his regret about the media reports over the role of the woman in this case which put out false information and wrongly defend her,” the statement said.
“The charged girl is a married woman who confessed to having an affair with the man she was caught with.”
Barbaric
Adultery is a punishable offence in Saudi Arabia’s strict system of Islamic law, and correspondents say judges are given wide powers to impose custodial sentences or corporal punishment.
The justice ministry statement is at odds with previous published testimony of the woman, who is a Shia Muslim from the Qatif area.
She has reportedly said she met the car-owner in order to retrieve a photo of them together, having herself recently got married.
She says two men entered the car and drove them to a secluded area where others were waiting, and both she and her male companion were raped.
Her sentence was increased on appeal after judges wanted to punish her for attempting to use the media to influence the case. Her attackers’ sentences - originally up to five years - were also doubled.
The woman’s companion was sentenced to 90 lashes.
Several governments and human rights groups have condemned her sentence and urged it to be lifted. Canada described it as “barbaric”.
The US, a major Saudi ally, declined to condemn to sentence, but did call it “astonishing”.
We’re not that far off, CWash: Air Force Charges Victim in Her Own Rape.
They can put this guy in charge, but they cannot expect to put god or anything else religious back into schools without one hell of a fight.
Terri,
After reading the article you referenced about service woman charged in her own rape, we can not help but exclaim “what the fuck is happening to my country?” How is level of indoctrination possible in a supposedly educated society?
Both our military and our female population have been so thoroughly brainwashed by these fundamentalists as to act against their own best interests. Scarlet Letter, Stockades, and Witch Trials are back!
Quite frankly, as long as their are exams and tests in school, prayer will always be there; unless of course, your an atheist.
That should be the extent of religion in the classroom and nothing more. You can talk about in World History classes and what not, but, anything more will arguably get you into hot water.
However, if these Neo-Cons and bible thumpers would, for the most part, see where the United States ranks world wide in comparison to other countries; then they would get off their little soapbox’s and quit whining. Given the way the world is today, Math, Reading and Writing, along with a heavy emphasis in science, physics and advanced math, should be more important than teaching the word of God, which, by the way, is exactly why we have Sunday Schools or should we get a daily dose of religion everyday? If the bible thumpers and Republicans had their way about it, then, yes we would be having that.
As it is, why do we need to be taught religion when it’s nothing more than a “farce”, anyway? After watching Zeitgeist The Movie, I’m beginning to think the whole idea of the “word of God” is nothing more than “plagiarism” to sell to the “flocks of sheep” to give them a false sense of security. That’s all there is to it, folks.
Keep it out of “our” schools, period.
Well, the thing that theocons tend to forget is that religious expression is protected in schools, and children are perfectly able to host prayer circles, wear religious articles, etc. I guess my thing is, if a parent is doing the parenting s/he feels s/he should, then why isn’t religious education at home and within church good enough?
I am loathe to see what this appointment will mean to science and sex education, though.
This is what they want in the classrooms, and ID is the Trojan Horse.

If you’ve been to a school recently you’d see he’s absolutely right about what a mess the kids are. The parents don’t teach morality (by that I don’t mean Christianity, I been basic “be nice, respect others, don’t threaten to kill someone because they own more then you, etc.”) and the schools can’t by law. We can teach every hair-brained theory (global warming) some scientist has put out in order to get billions in funding by the government but we can’t dare teach some basic societal foundations like 10 commandments or way of the truth or 5 pillars or any of the 100 different religions version of the golden rule.
Sub some day, then tell me your theory of what needs to be done. Better yet, sub in a county where there’s 12 percent unemployment because education is undervalued because the coal mines “are going to come back any day” and the unions have stiffled any attempts at progress while the enviornmental wacko’s have ensured that the new power plant with 200 high-paying jobs is delayed for another 5 years while people in other states are desperately needing that power we want to export.
If you’ve been to a school recently you’d see he’s absolutely right about what a mess the kids are.
Are they really? All of them? The children! The children!
The parents don’t teach morality
They also don’t teach science, math, literature, grammar, history, and sexual education.
(by that I don’t mean Christianity,
Which you go on to refute yourself by saying the 10 commandments must be taught in school.
I been basic “be nice, respect others, don’t threaten to kill someone because they own more then you, etc.”)
That’s totally fucking weird, because most of the assholes I went to school with picked on people because owned LESS than the pickers. You really didn’t see the rich kids getting much grief. The death threats were directed mostly towards the atheists, queers, and blacks.
and the schools can’t by law
I am unaware of any school that is barred from teaching respect and common courtesy. If you want your kids to be indoctrinated, I suggest homeschooling them, sending them to bible school, or a parochial school.
We can teach every hair-brained theory (global warming)
And don’t forget creation science! And nonsex-sex education!
we can’t dare teach some basic societal foundations like 10 commandments or way of the truth or 5 pillars or any of the 100 different religions version of the golden rule.
The 10 commandments are not the foundation of society, bub. Honestly, as a Christian, I’m offended that people are using them as a ruse to indoctrinate others and for political gain.
Anti-hero, you are so tedious. Seriously. You obviously know everything about everything and are a true patriot, so why are you typing and still not enlisting?
Damn!
As my friend Deborah says “YOU GO GIRL!” Wish I said that!
I must take issue with some of the nonsense, spouted above, concerning the shortcomings of our students.
Having sat in on some Pharmacological/MD/PHD programs, I found our students to be most respectful of others, and only a little disdainful of their home school peers not knowing where and what the clitoris was. Our anatomy class pointed out the shortcomings of their Texas textbooks.
Microbiology classes did not seem to affect their morals one iota, though I can’t say the same for statistics. But they used that to handicap Fletcher’s downfall, rather than horseracing odds. Not such a sinful lot, even if they somehow believed that giving a 10 year old a vaccine for cervical cancer would not make her sexually promiscuous , but might even save a few lives.
They also took to the notion that condoms prevent STD’s, and save lives, and wondered out loud why our governments policies have begotten a resurgence of those nasty diseases. Radical thinking in that class!! But nice kids, with good upbringing and a hell of a knowledge about science, who could distinguish between truly caring for others, and sanctimonious balderdash.
My kids are taught courtesy, respect of property and a host of other “morals” at school and at home. They are also learning to respect religious differences AT HOME, as I’m an atheist and their father is Catholic. I’m at school off and on for this reason or that, and I just don’t see what it is you’re talking about. Do you have kids in school? What makes you qualified to make these statements?
Thanks, I have recently been hunting for facts about this subject for ages and yours is the best I have located so far.
