Here we go! Kentucky map updates.
Matt Gunterman November 6th, 2007

19.15: I will probably wait until later in the night to do the map of the secretary of state race. Depends on how hectic things are.
20.45: Beshear doing EXTREMELY well so far in western Kentucky, which is arguably the state’s most socially conservative region. Gay-baiting didn’t work here, it appears. Troubling sign for Sen. Mitch McConnell (R) next year?
21.00: Ladies and gentleman, one image is striking fear into the heart of Mitch McConnell tonight, and it’s western Kentucky going dark, dark blue.
21.30: Ernie Fletcher did best where Republicans hate Mitch McConnell the most.
21.45: I am going to get some nachos and salsa. And I am going to chill for a bit and soak it all it. Good stuff. Good, good stuff.
21.55: Waiting on Henderson County to report. Should go dark blue.
22.10: Henderson County reports. That’s all she wrote.
22.15: What did we learn tonight? Kentuckians are thinking hard about their votes. That’s bad news for Mitch McConnell.

Buh-bye ernie, don’t let the door hit ya in the ass on the way out!
The C-J called the gubernatorial race for Beshear: link.
Lots of info coming in from PolWatchers - I guess people don’t fear the ’stach after all: link.
WEHT has called it for Beshear, as well as the local NBC in Evanspatch here.
Ok, so now pat boone is spinning in a tizzy, sucking his, er thumb, crying over his picture of jerry fatwell, and Kentucky is going to be the new San Francisco, when do you put in the cable cars, Golden Gate and start cooking up the best Sourdough bread in the country?
As I watch Ernie’s concession speech I have to ask, “Did he even prepare a victory speech?”
Beshear has won McCracken County by 20 points very red county.with all the front page news paxton media gave fletcher and tv he still couldn’t pull it off lol
If ernie had a victory speech ready, he is even more insane than the wanking chimp!
Matt, you are exactly right.
I was really eager to see how the West Kentucky was going to come out. This is not good news for Mitch. He can’t win without WKY.
When I was home last month, you could feel that people were hungry for change. West Kentuckians and all of Kentuckians have made that apparent tonight.
Congratulations to Kentucky!
Great job, Kentucky! Great job!!!!
this website has all the results by county

This Kentucky boy in Colorado congratulates you! Well done, Bluegrass state. We get rid of Allard next year, maybe you can get rid of Mitch.
Now, Rikc, get back to A-blog where you belong!
Dang, that’s a purty map. What’s up with Ohio County, though?
Ohio County’s fine! It’s dark blue, which I didn’t expect. It’s traditionally a sort-of Republican county. Do you mean Butler County, perhaps? It’s just to the south of Ohio.
My bad, Butler County.
It’s been a while since I’ve been home, Matt. Muhlenberg County boy.
The big surprise for me is the large margins that Beshear enjoyed in the larger western Kentucky counties. Winning Warren County/Bowling Green by the margin he did is impressive.
I guess you know I’m from McLean County, but there are plenty of Guntermans in Muhlenberg County. I spend a lot of time in Central City and Drakesboro.
LOL, Nosy, I like it here too, close to home and all..
Dang, you’re getting close to home. Belton, a bit south of Drakesboro. Dating myself, I’m a Hughes-Kirk grad. Muhlenberg, with all its union coal miners, has always been pretty blue. I am impressed.
Didn’t know you were from McLean Co….
Anyone who’s cruised the Sonic in Central City can’t be all bad, Rikc.
Or bought a Christmas gift at Uncle Lee’s.
I ran for judge/executive in McLean County last year against a three-term Republican. Lost by 48 votes. The incumbent Republican judge/executive in Muhlenberg County crashed and burned though. People returning to their roots. My Achilles heels in the election were my age (29) and ambiguous sexuality.
Matt, you’re genuine. If you’ve been to Airdrie, you’re family.
I have neither of those impediments (nor do I consider either of them impediments). Friends and family have told me I should come home and run for something. Problem is I ran from there and love Colorado too much to go back. I’m active now in Arapahoe County democratic politics, our Republican state rep just turned Democrat so we’re feeling pretty good right now.
Well, Colorado probably needs you more than Muhlenberg County. Now that they’re straightening out Hwy 431, it’s all good.
And one last word, in college, one of my best friends was a McLean County boy, Mark Harritt. Haven’t heard from him in years….
Anyway, keep up the good fight. I comment regularly at Americablog and have two of my own, one above and the other is linked from there. Congratulations!
If you can ditch Mitch and we can replace Allard the Torturer with better, the country will be a better place.
Hughes-Kirk stayed open until the early 1990s, didn’t it? I have to say, North and South are VERY impressive schools, structurally (and far better instructionally than McLean County).
Night, Matt!
It’s been a great night for the Democrats. Sure, there are a few Republican officeholders that survived the Democratic storm. But, the Democrats are definitely back in town. Fletcher carried only a handful of counties, and he is an incumbent governor. It is a Democratic tide that is coming in. Mitch, your ship is sinking, so you’d better find a life raft.
Woo-hoo! I’m loving this map for about 3 reasons:
1. Beshear bet the hell out of Fletcher.
2. It’s a sign what McConnell could potentially face next year.
3. With western Kentucky doing so well, it gives me hope we might just get a Democrat elected to the House from the 1st Congressional District.
McLean/Muhlenberg counties? Hopkins County, myself (Madisonville).
Great job, Democrats!
Hey,
NosyBear, Mark Harritt here. Currently working in Iraq. How can I get ahold of you?
